Seeing that Monday and Tuesday are Christmas and Christmas Eve there will not be posts then, however, since today is the last postable day (as I don't post on weekends generally) today will be the great Christmas post for 2012 (Disregard the "tomorrow" in the earlier post).
Now, I will admit upfront that this is not quite your traditional Christmas post, but it does have some solid Christmas overtones. First is a picture of a news report on FOX Chicago of Christmas topics.

This survey confuses me and makes me die a little on the inside. The first 36% may just be a religious diversity or non-religion that makes this a possibility, so I am ok with this. The second fact is the largest piece of crap I've ever heard and those children need to be sent back 2 grades because they aren't smart enough.. The 3rd fact is rather surprising since Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is on TV at least once a year and the song is an acceptable Christmas song for public and private schools. The last fact falls right into the "are you kidding me" category like fact 2. Maybe people need to teach their kids that the internet didn't exist until 1985 (give or take) and that there was life before Facebook (long before)...
With that bit of ridiculousness past let us move onto a Christmas tradition from the days of yore, caroling. This year I went to an assisted living community with members of Greek Life at Carroll and it was a pretty good time. While we didn't sing Christian Christmas carols much (maybe 2 songs) it still was great to see the faces of the residents just light up and watch them sing along even if they has some memory issues. While caroling is pretty enjoyable, even if you cannot sing, the song "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" bothers me a bit. Not the first verse, but one of the later ones that begins with "Now Bring Us Some Figgy Pudding".

This picture explains my confusion. Generally when you go caroling you go door to door for fun and sing for the purpose of spreading goodwill. This song demands figgy pudding, which while it is ok, makes one wonder what you can do with a suburbs-worth of figgy pudding, assuming that everyone has it.
While the Christmas season seems like it is all about the getting of gifts and buying gifts for others, but there is a reason that the holiday exists. While I respect other's opinions of what Christmas truly is, my belief is that it is Jesus' birthday and every year my family celebrates it as such. While this is a little bit of a strange way to explain it, it is a very true statement.
I wish everyone a wonderful holiday season whether you observe Christmas or not. Be safe in your travels and pass the spirit of peace, joy, and happiness wherever you go!
Have a great day!
