Goodbye 2011!

I had no clue what I was going to post today as I am running low on steam for posts.  I don't know what I need to do to get myself back to excited for blog posts instead of the chore it is becoming.  I may need to take a vacation from blog posts or maybe cut back on how often I post.

Until I figure something else out, I will continue what I've been doing.  So 2011 is pretty much over.  There is one day left after today and then we will be in 2012.  Frankly I've become a curmudgeon when it comes to New Years Eve. I don't see the big hype in the day.  As I see it, it is just another day with the only change being that I have to throw out my calendar.

It isn't like the sky changes colors when a new year begins, and you won't know what color it will be until midnight.  Although that would be bizarre if it did actually happen.

I guess in the spirit of the end of the year, here is the year 2011 in summary from Jib Jab.

With the year gone, what can we look forward to?

These twins claim to be psychic, though I can neither confirm or deny their validity, however they did predict in pretty good detail the 9/11 attacks in 1999.  At that time their content was removed from the internet by the government, but they were right.  Does this make them psychic or conspirators? Who knows, nevertheless here are their predictions for 2012.

So everyone talks about the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012 and I wish society wasn't so gullible and dumb about this.  You can think all you want that they world is going to end and that the alignment of the sun, earth, and milky way's center are a huge anomaly, but guess what..

Neil deGrasse Tyson is my favorite scientist ever.  Yes I am really nerdy to have a favorite scientist, but I don't care.  His explanation of the astrophysics or 2012 should be out there for everyone to know so people don't succumb to their stupid nature.

Spread the word, don't let your friends act like idiots because "the world is going to end on December 21st, 2012".  You want something about the Aztecs and 2012 to laugh at, you can just read this comic and laugh at it instead of your friends.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of this year, and makes responsible and safe decisions in the new year.

Have a great weekend!

Short and Simple

I did not sleep well last night because I was worried about my interview that I just got done with.  Once I got to sleep I was in a weird dream state where anything I thought instantly became part of my dream.  It felt like conscious dreaming and I didn't like it.  Sleeping between 7:30am and 8:30am felt like it took days to happen.

Nevertheless, because of an already long day, I figured I would post a short post today in hopes to make a better one tomorrow.  Not to say that today's post will be stupid, for in fact it isn't.  This video is by far one of the greatest meme videos I have ever seen.  Apparently there are 40+ memes in this video. Can you find them all?

Have a great day!

Mind Blown

I have no clue how to start this post, and yet I have.  It is things like this that can create those AHA! moments as well as those often unnecessary OMG moments.

Today is once again all pictures as youtube has been disappointing me on quality videos and that I haven't been exploring as much.  Nevertheless, all of todays pictures are mind blowing in their own way.

The first picture comes from the Toy Story series.  Sid was apparently in both movies and I never knew this until this picture.

What do you know, Sid is a kid that trashes toys and now he picks up trash for a living.  I bet he still lives at home with his mom too..

The next picture isn't so much about the picture, but the words around the picture.  This isn't so much a mind blowing picture, but more of a "really?!?".

The last 2 pictures come from Super Mario Brothers 3, which is mind-blowing to start.

To make everything more mind blowing about the game, the levels are more clever than we earlier believed.  Let's look at world 7.

A world that is all based on going through pipes is shaped like the pipes themselves.  Not insanely mind-blowing but very clever.  However, my mind was blown when I realized that the end of world 3 was not quite what it seemed.

Well played Nintendo..

Have a great day!

I Used To Have A Break, But Then I Took On Responsibilities

What do you mean that I actually have to do stuff during break?  Looking over my to do list for break I still have quite a lot of stuff to do, with around 3 weeks left.  I have to drop off old computers and more for recycling, I have to volunteer 7.5 hours of time, I have to work on my church's website, I have to look more into how to make a WordPress Theme, I have to make a website for a Carroll faculty in January, I have an interview on Thursday, and now I've been contacted by a Carroll Alumni to assist him with some free-lance work and app development.

Toss on some laundry to that list and my days are packed.  Nevertheless, I got Skyrim for Christmas, so I am going to take  today and work on some laundry and a lot of Skyrim.  To honor myself, I figured I could manage to make another Skyrim themed day.

Who knew that Penguins could be Dragonborn?  Albeit, I wouldn't call what happen a full Fus Ro Dah, but rather a Fus Ro as he felled an opponent.  Anyway, I am so glad that the "I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee" meme has slowly subsided on YouTube.

But now there is some decent content out there that amuses me and therefore shall amuse you too.

It is content like this that people need to address more.  It is creative and not too terribly obnoxious where if you saw it a bunch that you would cast it out for all time.  However that is another story.

This final picture is just a simple comic still dealing with taking an arrow to the knee.

With that, I'm going to switch out my load of laundry and go play Skyrim.

Have a great day!

Everyday I'm Learninging..

So Christmas is over now, but the presents will keep coming.  Today's gift will be teaching everyone how to Shuffle to the Party Rock Anthem.

First let's look at this tutorial video, which actually is really good.  It gives a little history, some comedy, and some visual guides too.

Now that you have a little bit of an understanding of how to do this correctly, let's give you an audio-visual representation of how you can do it with a little bit of creativity.

So now that you've seen how it all works get out there and try it yourself.  Practice makes perfect!

Have a great day!

It's Festivus For The Rest Of Us

Most people believe that December 23rd is only Christmas Eve Eve or the Japanese Emperor's birthday, but since 1997 the day has meant so much more. December 23rd marks the beginning of the season of Festivus.

Festivus was first seen on the show Seinfeld in the Costanza family.  The traditional Festivus takes place in key events.  This chart/info-graphic gives a basic overview of the season.

Blowing off work may not be the best idea, but it is a crime to stay at work for the holiday season.  Just as Christmas has the Christmas tree, Festivus has the Aluminum pole.

To start the Festivus celebration, send a formal invitation for dinner to family and friends.  The invitation must not mention Festivus so guest go not know that you are going to air grievances about them.

One of the strongest cornerstones of Festivus is the Airing of Grievances in which you tell all the invited how they have disappointed you in the last year.  During the traditional dinner or Spaghetti with Red Sauce, everyone has the opportunity to tell each and every person how they have disappointed them.  There is some freedom in the meal where you can eat whatever you wish as long as it never had or wore feathers at some point in its life.

Festivus continues until the head of the family has been pinned to the ground.  Therefore, Festivus could last a day to much longer depending on the capability of the family.

Just as people send out Christmas Cards and Presents, a Festivus tradition was created in fear of persecution of those whom celebrate Christmas.  George Costanza creates donation cards for a fake charity called The Human Fund (with the slogan "Money For People") in lieu of having to give office Christmas presents. When his boss questions George about a $20,000 check he gave George to donate to the Human Fund as a corporate donation, George hastily concocts the excuse that he made up the Human Fund because he feared persecution for his beliefs—for not celebrating Christmas, but celebrating Festivus. Attempting to call his bluff, Kruger goes home with George to see Festivus in action.

One final element that Festivus has are "Festivus Miracles".  From an outside view, Festivus Miracles are simply coincidences, but they are especially special on Festivus.

Because every holiday needs a special, I present the history of Festivus:

It's Festivus For The Rest Of Us!

Have a great holiday weekend!

Lights Please!

Christmas is approaching quickly.  I went out shopping today and I'm still surprised to see how many people are still out shopping for that last present, that last sale, that last forgotten item.  In all the hustle and bustle of the the season, is it possible that everyone has lost sight in what is really important?

I know everyone likes getting presents for Christmas, but is it really necessary?  It may just be that I am getting older, but I don't need that much stuff anymore.  My Christmas list used to be pages long and I could only come up with 7-10 things that I really wanted for Christmas.  For once I actually put clothes on my list.

I don't need a ton of stuff to have a good Christmas.  If I get a few of the things on my list I would be more than happy.  Everyone gets caught up in the commercialization of Christmas, "The Season Of Giving", and has to overspend for Christmas.

I am not saying that I don't like presents, Christmas is not about the presents.  It is about this:

What has happened since 1965 that has made Christmas specials slowly fade from the Christian values that the holiday of Christmas is based off of?  I know that everyone has to be more politically correct because America is the Salad Bowl of culture now, but does greed really make a good Christmas show?

Needless to say, please just remember as you are getting your last minute things to make Christmas as memorable as usual that there wouldn't be a holiday if it weren't for the baby born in Bethlehem long ago.

Marionette and Puppet

When their powers combine they create Muppets!

For a while, I have been a fan of the Muppets. I watched the Muppet show when I could, I grew up watching Sesame Street and Muppet Babies.  A lot of television that I watched involved the Muppets in some way.  I love that they are making a comeback.  I have not seen the newest Muppets movie yet, but I want to once it comes out on DVD or Netflix.

Because the Muppets cannot be interpreted in pictures, today will be all videos.  I know that not everyone likes that, but there will be more pictures eventually.

The first video is an opera classic from Carmen.  In this video, the Swedish Chef, Beaker, and Animal all sing the classic Habanera

Next is the classic rock song by Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody.  Pretty much every non-Sesame Street Muppet is in this video.  Like Habanera, these videos are relatively new to the Muppet scene.

There is no way to post a bunch of videos, but I will post one last video.  It is a blooper reel from the Muppet Show.  It is pretty funny.

Have a Great Day!

T-Shirts

So over the last couple days I collected a ton of t-shirt pictures and compiled them.  Instead of posting individual pictures here and making a ridiculous amount of t-shirt posts, I decided to make them into youtube videos.

I tried to pick good music for all of them, or at least fitting music, and I think I did ok.  There are 4 videos total, all of which I made and all of which have real t-shirt designs on them.

Enjoy!

I hope everyone has a great day!

Matriarchs

I know its not Mother's day, but i found that I have a bunch of mom stuff to use.  Everyone in the world has a mom, or has had a mom at some point in their life.

Moms are there when you need them, not to say that Dads aren't.  When you ask for them they answer.. most of the time.

Even when they get mad at you they usually don't stay mad long.  You just have to know that there are times to not push her buttons or there will be consequences.

Sometimes it seems that Moms are the brunt of unnecessary comments.  "Your Mom.." jokes, although occasionally funny, are pretty unnecessary.  You cannot play video games online without getting some 12-year-old kid claiming that they had sex with your mom.

Moms are not immune to misunderstanding like everyone in the world.  There is nothing about being a Mother that makes them unable to be embarrassed by mistakes by themselves or their kids.

In how the media portrays the mother-daughter relationship, there will always be anxiety.  Mothers and daughters never can get along until there is a big problem that they have to face or until they live a day in each other's shoes.  Nevertheless there is always an "I'll show you" mentality.

When it all comes down to it, Moms do a lot and they deserve more respect than they tend to get.  Some Moms do more than others, but when push comes to shove, they do do a lot.

Have a great day

A Plea To Santa

Twas a week(ish) before Christmas and all through the blog,
People looking at posts and ROTFLOLing like a log.
When all of a sudden it came apparent to me,
that what I am posting may cause anti-glee.

When push comes to shove and when presents are near,
should I be censoring what I put up here?
Does the Jolly Fat Man really care what I post?
Or does all of this really mean no presents to boast?

Did I offend you with those pics of that guy
from the burger king song about paper hats and pie?

If that was not it then what could it be?
What could be taking my presents from me?

Yes I do know that presents are not everything,
but everyone likes to at least just get something.
Is it just that my rhymes turn out worse than I fear?
Is it because I post pictures that make Santa look queer? (by which I mean odd)

If that is a problem I do feel quite sorry,
but when it all comes together it gets hits on safari (as well as other browsers)
If I still don't appease you with my statements sincere,
I guess you don't have to stop by with your 9 faithful reindeer.

Its a shame really, I do this for fun,
getting presents was not my goal number one.
Maybe next year I'll try to be better,
but nevertheless I won't be a debtor.

For posting this stuff is what I just do,
I don't do it for presents, I do it for you.
Thank you for reading this tale of great whoa,
But do not fret kiddies there's one thing to go.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away,
Darth Vader was santa or so some do say.
He rose up and wailed a guitar solo so ill'n
and created a chorus among unsuspecting chil'n.

And Darth Vader said as he walked towards the door
"I got this shit down, I AM A BADASS. Uppercase Underscore.

So my rhymes may be off and the puns are not punny,
and it looks like a Christmas with no snow, but just sunny.
But nevertheless, I'll keep posting a lot,
Merry Christmas to all, and that's all that I got.

I hope that the misses and you are both well,
Signed, from P(x) Randomness not Alexander Graham Bell.

ピタゴラスイッチ

For those that cannot read Japanese, like myself, the title is translated as PythagoraSwitch.  PythagoraSwitch apparently is a Japanese educational program that is supposed to agument a child's way of thinking.

The reason I know about this is because of their fantastic Rube Goldberg-like contraptions that all have the same goal.  Playing the theme to PythagoraSwitch and displaying the ピタゴラスイッチ (title) on a flag, banner, block, etc.

Nevertheless, the contraptions are fantastic and occasionally mind boggling on how they were completed. These, in my opinion, make up for the lack of content from yesterday's post.

These machines are also called Pitagora Switches as a different translation.

What they say at the end is Pita - Gora - Sui - Chi which is the phonetic way of saying the title and Pitagora/Pythagora Switch.

In my hope to have more content, I found the one video that has a bunch of them in it...  So much for more content I guess..

If you would like to view more of the machines you can go to my youtube channel where I have a playlist of 61 Switches.  I assume a few are duplicates of the ones above, but you can see them all below.  For now, I have figured out how to make a playlist play!  Enjoy the most videos on one blog post so far!!!

I hope everyone has a great day!

New Look Coming Soon!

In an attempt to freshen up the look of the blog, I plan on creating a new look and logo for P(x)Randomness.  If all goes to plan it will be ready to go for the 1st of January, but we'll see how it works.  I will take suggestions for colors and what you want to see for a logo.

Until then though the look will remain the same and the posts will continue as usual!

Today, I wanted to let everyone know of the change and to not just make it all text, enjoy this recipe!

Have a great day!

Snape Snape Severus Snape, Snape Snape Severus Snape..

I'm finally done with finals and now I play the waiting game, but that is ok.  I have time to make my blog posts good again.  Albeit, the quality hasn't dropped too much, but they can get a little better if I can find more content.

Today, if you haven't figured from the title is a Harry Potter day, not a Snape day.  Although on a side thought I kind of want to do a day devoted to the actor that played Snape.  Regardless, with it being a Harry Potter day and finals being over I deserve a cupcake!

It seems that about half of my finals were very straight forward where if you get it wrong you have not chance at partial credit.  I don't like how closed minded some teachers can be, like this one..

Based on the diagram this person was 100% correct, but sure enough there is no partial credit or an acknowledgement of a laugh.  Teachers can be evil sometimes.  I'm not talking Hitler evil, but more like Voldemort.  I don't really know if that is any better, but I like the comparison for the sake of this post.

Sometimes you have to wonder if Voldemort is just misunderstood.  I mean you'd be angry too if you were born bald with a flat face.

When all else fails I guess Voldemort could always blow up Hogwarts?

I hope everyone has a great day!

Finals: The Denial

So by now you are thoroughly done with finals.  You don't want to take them, you don't want to study for them, you just want to pack up everything and go home.  So what do you do?  You trudge through studying as much as you can and break up the monotony by playing Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

What you plan on taking 20-30 minutes of a break ends up taking 1-2 hours of precious study time.  You end up listening to covers and parodies of the Thu'um and the Bard song.

So much Thu'um you will have listened to that you decide to make your own parodies of Thu'um (not that any of these are mine).

The Dovahkin does not just stop at ducks, no.  He even invades your workplace.

And Church/Hypnotist?

Once the parodies have reached their potential and you realize that you have gotten off track, you go back online to look for quizzes.  Unfortunately Bio Quiz isn't spelled "Skyrim Meme".

Yeah.. thats not mine either.  I used to be an awesome picture designer, but I took and arrow to the knee.  I deserve to get punched for using that stupid line, but oh well.

My last final is today so I will be busy.  Tomorrow will probably not have the finals theme, but we'll see when we get there.

Finals: The Stress

By now, the stress of finals has probably hit.  You don't know if you will be prepared for the next test or not.  You can only do so much to relieve stress.  Taking a break helps, but sometimes you need more to help relieve stress.  When in doubt grab a kitty.

I probably would avoid this seeing that I am mildly allergic to cats, but they are adorable enough just sitting there.  If that is not quite your cup of tea, just take a break and make some cookies or pie because...

If you feel that you fall under the more logical methods where conventional things don't stress you out, but rather the grade makes a difference, this may be more on your level.

Sometimes it is just comforting to know that you only need a 34% to keep your grade or that to get the grad you want you need a 80%.  At the same time, there is nothing more crushing than realizing that you need a 107% to get the A you wanted.  If the idea of finding this out freaks you out, don't do it.

Your goal is to study, if something other than studying is causing stress, remove yourself from the situation until you can give your full focus to it again.

I know its not a long post today, but I did write this on Tuesday because I plan on studying a little bit today for my Stats final tomorrow morning.. Stupid saturday morning finals..

Have a great weekend, and relax.

Finals: The Sleep Cycle

Some college students claim that there is no such thing as a sleep cycle during Finals week, but there is.  If you have to cram so much that you don't get to sleep, maybe you should have gone to your classes, participates, read the assignments, and did the homework.

If you want to even function for an exam, you just need to sleep and study withing reason.  I know there are plenty of people that will just say that they can just live off of energy drinks and sugar.  I can't agree with this picture anymore, it is perfect.

Now there is a right place and a wrong place to sleep.  If you are tired, take a nap or sleep, but try to make it to a bed.  You don't want to sleep on a desk and get a stiff neck or back because that won't make studying any better or easier.  Plus, you don't want to look like this person do you?

Don't be ridiculous.  Most college students need 7-9 hours of sleep to function well, with the exception of a few people that need a few hours more.

If you want to stand a chance, you're going to have to get some sleep.

Have a great day!

Look for tomorrow's post around 9AM once again for the possible finale of the Finals series.

Finals: The New Hope

So by now the reality has set in that Finals start tomorrow and you haven't studied yet.  Unfortunately you don't have the time you want to study, but think of it this way:

You can't win.. The math says it here, you can't pass by studying, so what can you do?

So the math in the picture is absolutely wrong, but what can you do in such a short time.  Cramming isn't going to help because it never does, but you don't have time to go through the 7-Day Zombification process.

It is bound to happen when you cram, so you have to find a way around it.  One way is to study in bursts giving yourself frequent breaks.  This tweet is not only valid as a joke, but it also comes up with a couple ideas of what you can do during breaks to get your mind off of studying.

Maybe the hobby isn't the greatest idea, but everything else could work.  A little cleaning here and there can't hurt right?

Regardless, take your time studying because cramming won't help.  Get some sleep! You won't remember a thing if you can't focus because you're running on caffeine and sugar.

Take it slow and enjoy the day!

Look for tomorrow's post around 9:00AM again so I can sleep in before my finals on Friday.

Finals: The Analysis

So I am somewhat surprised that I am able to post today, but I like it at the same time.  I decided that I am going to attempt to make this week have the theme of finals because I have finals starting on Friday, which is only a presentation that means nothing, a final on Saturday at 8am, which I don't care for, and then 2 on Monday, which will kill me.

Today I will look at what Finals week compares to using Venn Diagrams (Yeah, they're spelled that way and I didn't have to look it up).  First let us look at what will be on the exam.

I have a bad feeling that this is exactly how my final for Religion is going to go.  I think I know enough to B.S. anything that gets thrown at me if I need to, but there in no way to know what will be on a final that does not get written until the day before.

Regardless, if you happen to know what is on the final you can take a chance at studying.

You know that you won't study well though.. YouTube and P(x)Randomness is so much better than actually studying right?  You'll still manage to get some studying done though, but you'll never feel like it is enough.

Once you've studied enough, the only thing you can do is take the test and look forward to the break afterward.  Most people are looking forward to the holiday season, primarily Christmas in the U.S.  Before Christmas is the season of Advent though which surprisingly relates to Finals Week..

The beginning may be tough, but the afterward is so much nicer.  While we're on the topic of finals and religion, you can also compare finals to Holy Week too (Easter time for those who aren't familiar with the term for the week before).

My personal favorites on this list are denial and "Is it finished?!?!".

I will be making another post this afternoon for tomorrow so look for it tomorrow around 9am CST, or if you follow the Facebook feed (which you should) it will be on it between 1p-4p CST.

Have a great day!

Finals: The Carb-o-Loading

So my finals have officially started today and I think I rocked it.  The rest of finals for me do not start until Friday, which gives me plenty of time to lay back, study, and carb-o-load for those sleepless nights.

I probably won't worry about my finals too much because I study pretty well in short spurts.  However, there are plenty of people that study really hard in fear of failing.  I have today the most famous selections of carbs that you can acquire if the price is right.

A combination of a mostly decent actor and chocolate.

Sorry, not even a delicious form of bread can make you guys better..

A wild treat you may want to try.

Could you be anymore patriotic?

It'll kick your ass if you stop studying

You get and Oreo and you get and Oreo, EVERYBODY GETS AN OREO!!!

For those times when you need some tea to keep you awake.  I pity the fool who eats this without tea.

For those times when you just need a study break!

Don't kill yourself studying too hard for finals.  Taking a break every 30-40 minutes of studying is better than cramming for 15 hours.

Enjoy!

Pony Overload!

I realized moments ago that I hadn't posted yet today.   So I made this post!

I realized that because I have finals over the next 2 weeks there may be a few days where I don't make a post, but we'll see what happens.

For today however, I figured I could make a pony themed post, even though it will be short.

My Little Pony has been around for a long time, but the newest one has some pretty youtube videos.  There is a horse named Fluttershy that is amusing at least.  You can be the judge though in these parody video.

So, it is not really that ponyful if that is even close to a word, but there is even more pony fun in minecraft.. despite how creepy it may look..

What is seen cannot be unseen..

I know its not great, but its all I got.  Enjoy the weekend!

The Real Stereotypical Man's Man

Its weird being up at 7am and not having anything to do until 11am.  I think I might as well just stay awake for the day now and see how it goes.  Who thought it would actually be nice to see the sun rise today?

Anyway, as the title suggests today's going to be about the Man's Man.  We're not talking about your average guy, but the guy that everyone stereotypes a guy to be.  I like how the videos and pictures that I have are a limited view of how the "average" guy is from the media's standpoint.

Now where to start?  I guess lets go with the new Dr. Pepper TEN commercial that states it is just for men, or rather that "It's not for Women".

I was confused by this product at first.  I thought there was something special about it, but there isn't.  It is basically Dr. Pepper with 10 calories.  I still want to see if it is any good, as a diet soda/pop, but we'll see if that happens.

While we're on the subject of food, I found a picture that explains a really good point.  It is all about the label of sexism between men and women, but this view comes from a man about the heated sandwich/sammich debate.

So.. now where does this put us?  No different, but the idea's out there.  The stereotypical man is obsessed with sex.  There is no way to get around it, when it comes to the media every guy is a horn dog and they make it obvious.  They don't have to be oggling women, but the "that's what she said" mentality is right up there in making the man a sex fiend.

Finally, what does the stereotypical man do on his weekends? Drink!  Why not?  Work hard for the man in your and then come home and drink til inebriated in the world's favorite drink receptacle!

Finally a solid post again.  It is good having time to do something you enjoy.  I'm going to go read for homework and enjoy my 4 hours until class.

Have a great day!
