Busy Day, Lazar Post

So I finally arrived back at my dorm for the first time in a while, hence the late post.  I went to the opening convocation at Carroll University and the guest speaker was such a pompous goober.  He talked about water for the hour-fifteen that he was up there.  I'm all for having a theme for the year, but his entire speech was summarizing the book that all the freshmen had to read.  WHAT???  You are doing your speech because some lame Freshies didn't read your book?  Nevertheless, I got the convo point for it so I can be done for the year.  2 more and I can graduate.

I still have a busy night, but it'll be ok.  The business however is the cause for me posting episodes 1-3 and 5 of the Lazer Collection. Why not 4?  Because it seemed like a stupid joke from the maker. Most of the sketches are funny to me though some are too forced.

Enjoy!

I Wanted Cake, Not The Home Depot..

So my roommate has been playing Portal 2 and we have confirmed that GLaDOS is a passive-aggressive bitch.  Nevertheless, because he is playing Portal 2 I figured I would post stuff about Portal 1 to not chance spoilers.

Portal is an interesting game that can be rather thought provoking.

Another question that could arise is what do the turrets do during the day to keep themselves occupied when test subjects are nowhere to be found?

Needless to say, in Portal, death is imminent.  For some people, however, the average death just isn't enough.  Sometimes they have to crank up the death-o-meter.

Portal is a great game, but many people don't fully understand the line "the cake is a lie".  Because I didn't feel like typing out the explanation myself, here is the correct answer from Yahoo Answers.

Roughly translates to "your promised reward is merely a fictitious motivator". Popularized by the game "Portal" (found on Half-Life 2's "Orange Box" game releasefor PC, X-Box 360, and PS3). During the game, an electronic voice encourages you to solve intricate puzzles using cake as a motivating perk. When you have "broken out" of the game's initial testing phase (from threat of death), you find scrawls on walls of the innards of the testing center warning you that "the cake is a lie".
The phrase the cake is a lie had it's origins on one of the *chans. It started in the lolicon image board also called "/cake/" or "Delicious Cake" (Lolicon being drawn pornography depicting small children doing sexual favors.) On certain chans (Which will go unnamed) the /cake/ board shows picture of real small children instead of drawn. similar to their /jb/ or jailbait boards. Some of these picture can be found with a tag on them saying "Open with winrar". When you do this these certain picture open text documents with links or bat info that leads to child porn or "CP". The receiver of "CP" would then return to the original thread and tag it with the phrase "The cake is a lie" cake being Child Porn. This phrase is often mistaken for portal where at the end you are rewarded with cake promised throughout the game only to have it taken away. But that would leave incorrect. The meaning of this phrase was lost some time ago and was only brought back when portal was introduced and it fit so well.

So there you go, the destruction of a perfectly good idea all in one paragraph.  Nevertheless, the cake in Portal has nothing to do with child pornography, but it is no usual cake.  The recipe can be found in this video.

Back To School, Where the days are fun and the internet is slow..

I moved back into school yesterday and I forgot how slow the internet is.  Every picture that I am posting has taken 5-6 minutes to load.  It may be trickier to update than I thought.

You could just tell me, 'well its college there's bound to be slow internet' and I can tell you this:

You may suggest to use another internet provider, but I don't know what the best selection for a mac would be.  I know Chrome works well on my laptop, but will it work on a mac?

In a few weeks we'll be sure to get an email saying, we're increasing your internet speed so it works better at nights, but you know its going to be a lie.

The only thing I have to say to ITS is:

Posted before noon, though it is simple.

The Blogen: Epic Poem II

Once upon a summer dreary,
while I Stumbled until weary,
over a strange and curious volume of unending lore.

While I stumbled and not napping,
suddenly a laugh was cracking,
over something thats knee-slapping
Favorite page and find some more.

Ah, distinctly I recall,
That long season between spring and fall.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From the web surcease of sorrow - sorrow from a monotonous summer.
Hark, a rare and radiant picture whom the angels named Nyan Cat
Random here for evermore.

So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I click repeating
"Tis some visitors I require, clicking at my blog posts' door"
This it is, and nothing more"

Digging through the mire and clutter,
finding things to post that rhyme with butter,
In there stepped a stately visitor of the saintly days of yore.
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, visited my simple blogpost door
Visited from a bust of Zuckerberg linked up from my blogpost door.
Visited and nothing more.

Then this visitor beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the continued visits, after much compiling.
Tell me what thy lordly name thinks of what I post.
Quoth the visitor, "Post Some More"

Pictures of Failures,

Videos of Songs,

Pictures of Psychology,

Pics of Kim Jong,

Quoth the visitor, "Post Some More".

And the visitor, never leaving, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Zuckerberg just above my blogpost door;
And his/her eyes have all the seeming of a person that is scheming,
And the backlight o'er him/her streaming throws his/her shadow on the floor;
And my soul makes that shadow that lies floating on the floor
P(x) Randomness - Post Some More!

I hope you enjoyed this poem, despite it being inconsistent.  Enjoy the weekend and stay safe!

Pro Potential: TBD

The first week of NCAA football starts in only a week, so I'm not going to be talking about logos today.  Football is hands down my favorite sport to watch and play.  Last year a few of my friends and I played an online dynasty in NCAA Football on XBox Live and we made it through about 15 seasons before the file corrupted itself.  Nevertheless, football on video game consoles are getting to be better and better.  Not only are the graphics getting better, but the animations are also getting better.

Not only is the gameplay really cool, but the customizability of the game has gotten better too.  You can pick a song to have the teams run onto the field with.  Someone has a fantastic sense of humor as they added a song to BYU's entrance.

For those who don't understand this: BYU is a school under the Church of Later Day Saints (Mormon) and they have an honor code for students.  This honor code includes:
  • Abstinence from illicit drugs, alcohol, tobacco, coffee, and tea (substances forbidden by the LDS Word of Wisdom)
  • Honesty
  • Living a chaste and virtuous life:
  • Appropriate gender-specific behavior (no sexual harassment)
  • No involvement with pornographic or indecent material
  • No inappropriate sexual activity (no sexual relationships outside of marriage)
  • No homosexual behavior
  • Obedience to the law
  • Active participation in Church services (according to whatever religion of which one is a member)
  • Clean language
  • Dress and Grooming Standards. Abiding by the guidelines for dress, grooming, and housing. Shorts and capris are strictly forbidden, Skirts must reach to the knee and shirts may not be sleeveless. Form fitting, strapless and revealing clothing is not appropriate. Male students may not wear beards or goatees without permission; such permission is usually granted only to men with skin conditions aggravated by shaving or for theatrical performances requiring beards. While BYU used to grant permission for religious purposes, this is no longer recognized as a valid exemption.
That is quite a lot of rules to follow, but nevertheless, the video is funny.  If those rules are too much for you, maybe you should pick another college.  I warn you however, there are quite a few coaches that are not too great.  To make the decision a little easier, you can use this alignment chart to pick a school based on your own alignment.

Now that you have selected your college, you have 1-2 weeks to pick what NFL team you want to follow.  Here at P(x) Randomness, we have a perfect flow chart to help you make your choice!  Answer the questions/statements honestly and find the ideal team.

Once you have your team you can celebrate when they score and post Facebook statuses about how your team embarrassed their opponent.  The next day you can post videos of the highlights or that one moment that you'll remember forever.

I don't know how much time I will have to post everyday since school starts next week, but I will be trying to post daily still.  The time that I post will most likely be different everyday.  If you click the like button on the upper-right on the page you can ensure that you get your daily randomness posted on your Facebook wall everyday!

You're Just My Type

With school starting up again I figured I'd start to fall back into what I had learned last semester to keep my mind fresh for this next semester.  Upon thinking about that however, I've come to realize that I do not have any design classes this semester, which really stinks.  So to keep my mind actively designing I will try to post more of my own creations.  Until then I'll give everyone a quick look into the world of typography.

Every ad you see was created with a purpose.  The font/typeface that an ad uses was selected for a reason.  Whether it is a serif font with a bold style or a sans serif font that is in small caps, it was used to convey a message.  On a side note, a serif is the tails/flags that are on the ends on letters.

Sans serif literally means "without serif" so there are no flags/tails on the ends of letters.

Now that you somewhat understand the basics of typography you can start to choose what typography you want to use for your design projects.

Click Picture to Enlarge
The one thing that bothers me about typography is how there is hatred still.  People who like helvetica don't like ariel, and people who like ariel don't like helvetica,  and pretty much every designer hates Comic Sans.

People see it as a "Crap font" or as unprofessional to use.  Albeit that it shouldn't be used as the typeface for your resume or for a serious issue, Comic Sans (or Comic Sans MS) is still a usable font.  There are plenty of other fonts out there that shouldn't be used except in specific times too, but you don't see a huge uprising over Trajan (the movie font) or Wingdings.  Honestly, Wingdings 1-3 are the worst typefaces out there, but you don't see the same hatred of them.

Last year we had to make a typography poster using one typeface and make it explain the face through the poster.  I took the challenge of making one about Comic Sans to show that it isn't the useless font that people say it is.

The main point that I read about the font was that Apple saw how popular it was so they made a similar font, Chalkboard, so they would have something similar.  It isn't what the font itself is that makes it bad, but how its being used that makes it bad.

To ease away from the seriousness of the mini debate (though it really only had one side) seen above, here is one of the funnier design puns I have seen in a while.

If you don't understand it, expand your horizons and look it up!  As of now, I'm thinking that I'll be posting about logos tomorrow, but it all depends on how random I choose to be.

Simplified Logos 2.0

So I finally found the rest of the simplified logo/product designs.  I once again selected the ones that looked the best and I now present them to you!

The first product is Tobasco sauce, I like the 3rd picture the best.  The last logo is still good looking, but it loses a lot of the iconic look of Tobasco.

This next product is Guinness Beer and once again the 3rd picture is the best.  I believe that the last one is far too simple, but the third one is a great simplistic logo that includes the Guinness logo and the same typeface from the original.

There really isn't anything wrong with the Evian water bottle currently (except that the product name spelled backwards is 'naive'), but to be more environmentally friendly they could simplify their label to only use white ink.  Albeit the fact that the product is bottled water, using unnecessary plastic, the reduction of ink usage could reduce cost and waste.

The next product, Schweppes' Assorted Beverages fall under the same category as the Evian water where a reduction of the logo would be more environmentally friendly.  The only difference would be that Schweppes would keep the iconic type that they have.

I may have posted this last one before, but the picture was removed by the original site with a picture that says "Stop Stealing Out Bandwidth".  The final one is a product I have never tried, Red Bull.  I really like the simple design of the Red Bull can in the 3rd picture.

*Codec Rings* Snake? Snake? SNAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

In a few weeks time I will continue playing the Metal Gear Solid series.  I beat MGS during my freshman year and barely started 2, but I never got to finish it.  My goal is to have 2 beaten by thanksgiving and 3 and part of 4 done by Easter, but we'll see how this semester goes.  Nevertheless, I figured since this was on my mind that I would devote a day to the MGS series, seeing that they haven't had any posts yet.

There have been a few parodies made of the Metal Gear series, but one of the more famous ones are Metal Gear Awesome 1 and 2 (Caution: Strong Language and Suggestive Themes)  If you want to play the first game without spoilers, do not watch these videos!

The series has also spurred some semi-creative ideas that have become borderline cliche.  Ideas such as photoshopping a character into a company logo or giving the character's facebook accounts and acting out what their statuses and conversations would be about.  Despite them being cliched they are still rather amusing.

If you haven't played the games, none of this makes sense to you.  Even if you haven't this last one will make a little sense to you I hope..

Enjoy the day, who knows when tomorrow's post will be up.

Winning and Losing--The Pre-Sheen Era

Happy FriRandomFestivalian Day!

Winning and losing are all perspective based things.  What one person sees as a win for themselves or society, others may see as a loss.  The most obvious example is a football game.  Someone will win and someone will lose and others lose bigger in the form of injury or loss of jobs.  Sometimes you just have to pick yourself up and keep pushing forward.

Listerine seems like a very successful company now, but with the ads that they had its surprising they made it anywhere.  The following ad features a young Morgan Freeman.

Overall, it seems like a loss of an advertisement, but sure enough the company is still around making a great product.  I guess the best thing to do is be optimistic about everything, you never know what will be a failure or what will be a success.  You could be in the biggest financial crisis that you know of but you know that there are always people there to help you.

And sometimes, it doesn't even have to be a person...

You're neevr going to know what will be successful or what will fail until you try it.  You'll never know if that logo you made will be good until you test it out.  You'll never know if college parties are fun unless you go to one.  You'll never know if something is delicious until you try it.

You'll never know how to do something if you don't ask how.  You'll never know how to find answers if you don't ask questions.  You'll never know how to make something if you don't search for a way.

Let your mind run free, less the success flow from you.  Even the worst ideas in reality can be the best ideas in a bigger picture.

Big picture is the song "Bohemian Rhapsody", little picture is a brilliant idea.

But for every success in the world there are failures.  Even with the failures there are great successes that can be made of it.  For example, the lack of flash player on the iPhone compared to the Android.

In life there will be winning an losing all the time.  It won't be epic winning like Charlie Sheen, because that's not winning, ever.  It won't be losing like Lebron taking his talents to South Beach because that was him being a loser.  However, there are plenty of times where there will be enough losing to go around.

There are plenty of things that are wrong about that last ad, but sometimes winning isn't everything.

You think there are mixed messages here? You're probably right..  Thats what happens when you try to make a blog post in 5 different timeframes.

The Last Month of My Summer In A Nutshell

Video Games and YouTube.. Now you know my summer.  Oh you want to know what games and videos?  No you really don't but you'll see anyway.

Recently I've been playing COD Black Ops and doing pretty well.  There was one day I had to stop playing because nothing was going right.  It seemed like every game was like this.

When I wasn't playing COD I was probably updating my blog or playing Minecraft.  I've taken the last week and started to make a sports complex (football field and pool so far).  I've been playing with pistons and redstone lately, but I don't have to patience to make something like this.

Despite my lack of patience I still love Minecraft a ton.  I know I post a lot about it but its a game that captures my creativity pretty well.

So you think that I've explained all the video games that I've been playing, and that is correct, however, I've been watching video games on youtube too.  I've been watching ChuggaaConroy and NintendoCapriSun's "Let's Play" videos as much as I could.  My recent favorite is watching NCS's Lets Play Super Mario Galaxy 2 (after watching all of ChuggaaConroy's playthrough of Super Mario Galaxy 1).  Other than those two, I have also been watching the Yogscast play all types of Minecraft games, RPGs, Adventures, Mods, etc.  This video shows the entertainment value of both in one fell swoop.

Tomorrow is Friday already?  I think I have enough content to make it pretty random but we'll have to see!

What?

I feel slightly more inspired today though today's topic is pretty crazy.  It all started from remembering a video that I was shown during Honors US History in high school.  This song was really funny then and it is pretty funny now.  Caution: Adult Language

This song brought me to my theme today.  I would assume a few people can guess what the theme is from the title and from the first video.  It's Lil Jon!  Honestly I haven't really heard much of his music, and for the longest time I couldn't stand his trademark "What!" and "Yeeaaah!", but its all become engraved into society.

I really like the mash-ups that people do with Lil Jon's music.  The first time I saw this picture I laughed really hard.  Its a mashup of a song form the show Lazy Town and Lil Jon himself.

The next mashup is of the band Rammstein, a little bit of 50 Cent, and Lil Jon as well.  Its not so much funny as it is epic (Note: Epic has become too overused.  It needs to be use sparingly or in explanation of characters in DnD that have reached level 21 and higher. The More You Know *Rainbow*).

What? Its Wednesday already? Weird. Oh well.

Missing Organs? Here's a possible Reason.

So if you're thinking based on the title this post is going to be about Repo Man: The Genetic Opera, you will be sadly disappointed.  I always leave a few videos that are in series for my uninspired days, and today is one of those days.

Now you still may be wondering what could possibly steal organs and still be worth posting.  If you figured out that it was Charlie the Unicorn, give yourself a pat on the back.  If not, sit back and enjoy!

I'll work on my inspiration today and hopefully have something for tomorrow.

In Theory It Should Work, But In Reality It Won't

So I've been pretty successful in my goal of posting every weekday that I've had this blog, and I'm proud of that.  I'm only a little disappointed that it hasn't been as successful as I'd hoped.  I'm glad that I have a consistent viewership of eight people, but as anyone with a blog, you want more people to view it.  I hoped that my Facebook like page would gather up more people so those people that aren't my facebook friends could get the updates daily.  If you want to like this page and get the blog post updates as they come out, click the like button in the upper right.  There is no spam, just the blog posts and a rare update.

Now that my plea for further success if over, back to the blog.  So there are a bunch of pictures that explain how things in life could work so much better or cheaper than they are now, but none of them would work. These pictures are known as examples of "Troll Physics".  They are highly amusing ideas in my own opinion, but its up to you to decide!

FriRandomFestivalian Day: Childhood

So my childhood wasn't much different than my life is now.  As I kid I played outside more, but still a chunk of my day consisted of playing video games.  Originally we only had a Super Nintendo, which is hands down in the top 3 of best classic video game systems.  Back then I would try and beat Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, but I could never do it.  Now I can run through it pretty easily with only a few problems.  Now i found that someone made a video that if Link had a Portal gun.  Damn that would be so cool..

We also had a Lion King game that was kind cool, until you get to the stampede and get your ass run over by wildabeasts.  That level was near impossible then and it still is impossible now.

After the Super Nintendo we got a Nintendo 64, which was a fantastic system too.  The Legend of Zelda continued with Ocarina of Time.  In that game, the Zora's had to be one of the most obnoxious races ever.  Who tells you to find a bottle in a lake, dive off a waterfall for $20, sell you stuff you don't need for exorbitant prices, light torches so you can talk to the obese king, and then you have to feed their whale to save their princess.  Oh yeah and the Water Temple which is a pain to society as well.

Nevertheless, have you ever wondered how all that stuff got in the whale Jabu Jabu?

Another fantastic game that now has the potential for nightmares was Mario Party.  In Mario Party 3 you were allowed to play as the newest foil character for Luigi.  You could play as Waluigi who was first seen in Mario Tennis.  In Mario Party 3 you could get a better idea of Waluigi's personality and how he is semi-evil like Wario is.

Now why is Waluigi so nightmarish?  Well, honestly its not anything from the game, but rather its all about the picture of this greek man.

Creepy Eh?

Everyone have a great weekend!

Love Hate Relationships

I don't know why this is my topic for the day, but I was thinking about music a decent amount over the last couple days and I finally came to the decision this morning that I would discuss 3 songs/artists that I love listening to and 3 that I hate listening to.

The TOP 3 HATED ARTISTS

#3. Nickelback

Now this isn't just a jump on the bandwagon and hate party. I really dislike Nickelback because they're songs sound the same.  Think about the pace over almost every song they've "written" and you'll see that they have the same dynamics to them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2pXfAK8r1k

I'm not a 100% hater because they do have some decent songs like Animal and Rockstar (which has since lost its value due to overplaying), but I am not a fan.  Sorry bro, you can listen to Nickelback while you lift in front of the mirror, but I'll stick to something better.

#2 Patrice Wilson

Now you're probably thinking, "who the F*** is Patrice Wilson".  You know who he is without even knowing it.  He is the guy that wrote one of the worlds worst songs in the millennium (other than artist at #1 hated).  Still can't think of who he is?  Here is a picture of him in a familiar location.

What you don't like this game? Are you not having "fun, fun, fun, fun"..  If you haven't guessed by now, this guy is the writer of the song "Friday".  Rebecca Black is a pawn in his lets make YouTube's most disliked song.  In fact the song was removed off of YouTube for having too many dislikes.  Leave it to this douche to charge a rental fee of $2.99 to watch it after that happened..

#1 Ke$ha

I loathe everything about her.  She acts like a moron in her songs, but its ok to society.  I can't stand how she sounds like a ditz in every song she's ever sung.  Keep wearing you're overdone eyeliner and you're 80 pounds of glitter, one day it'll all hit you that you are a one hit wonder.  The legacy of dislike began with one of her first songs, "Tik Tok".  The title itself pissed me off enough because there is no reason for it. Tick Tock is still a good title because noone has used it recently (to my knowledge).

The biggest reason I hate her is her conversation with the Mayor of Waukesha.  She wanted the city to officially rename the city for her concert into Wauke$ha because she was "honoring the town with her presence".  The mayor put her in her place when they said "Why don't you change your name to Waukesha in honor of this town?"  Point for the Mayor of Waukesha!

For sounding like an idiot in every song and being an idiot in society you have earned my #1 Hated Artist.

I realize that this has been a long post so the love artists will be short and sweet.

#3 Josh Turner

I envy him a little because he can hit notes lower than I can (though he may have had voice training).  His songs are good, have meaning, and are less about the middle-of-nowhere country style.

#2 Lady Gaga

She is absolutely nuts, but that is the style that draws her to people.  She is basically the anti-Ke$ha in my mind.  Sure she still has songs that I don't care for, but she has a real talent for singing, and possibly songwriting.

#1 Rhapsody of Fire

I'd assume noone has ever heard of this band before,  few people that I know have.  They are a Power Metal/Symphonic Rock band out of Canada and they have some fantastic songs.  They're songs not only satisfy musical needs, but they also could be great music for DnD inspiration.
