FriRandomFestivalian Day!

Welcome to the 4th FriRandomFestivalian Day.  These days have slowly become a challenge that I look forward to every day.  I take all the pictures and videos I have and try and fit a story between each of them.

So in college I started out majoring in Computer Software Engineering and when people heard this they were always asking me to fix their computer or to setup their printer.  This drove me crazy because I wasn't an IT person.  Now that I changed my major to Web Design, I still get the same questions.  Here is the insight into the world of how I fix a bunch of the computer problems.

So with my new major, many of my classes are looking at the use of colors, typography, and design/layout of anything in the world from business cards to business logos and much more.  Last semester I had a surprisingly challenging class about Color and Typography.  You'd think that color couldn't be hard because you learned them in Kindergarden, but that didn't go into the positive and negative associations of color, the complementary colors, designing using one color, etc.  If you have troubles remembering the complementary colors, just remember this picture.

There of course are more but if you want to learn the rest, google them..

Friday is usually the day that you hear the most people asking what parties there are over the weekend.  I don't see myself as the stereotypical college student where I party, recover, and do homework on sunday.  This chart is pretty accurate, though I'd change the internet to video games more.

During some of that aimless browsing of the internet I found that if you are in the youtube trial of HTML5 and you right click the video there is a box that pops up.  That box has the option of Save As, and when you click it this gentleman pops up.

Youtbe Trolls...

Friday means that there won't be any posts until Monday.  A little insight into what I'm doing while making these posts is that I watch Let's Make A Deal and The Price is Right while making the posts.  A frequent commercial that obviously isn't aimed at me yet is a Diabetes commercial featuring the Mustached Wonder Wilford Brimley.

What the chicken has to do with Diabeetus, I don't know however I do know that Turkey Vultures are cool and even they think they're cool.

Long post today can hopefully tide you over for the weekend.  If you're new to reading the blog and like what you see, plaease share it with someone else!  Thanks!  Happy FriRandomFestivalian Day!

Famous Quotes from Proper Gentlemen

There are many famous and memorable quotes that almost everyone knows and uses, but what if those quotes were spoken by a proper gentleman.  Well here are a few pictures that explain exactly what would happen! I will put the quote after the picture in case you don't know what it was.

I am tired of those mother fu**ing snakes on this mother fu**ing plane!
Theres a snake in my boot!
Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

This one deserves a video for the quote becuase its that good.. This quote starts around 35 seconds.

And finally the most fantastic one of them all!

Fair thee well until the sun rises again.

Thomas the Tank Engine: Innocent Then Corrupted Now.

As a kid and admittedly now, I really enjoyed the show Thomas the Tank Engine and Shining Time Station.  As I kid I didn't know that Ringo Starr (One of the Narrators) was in the Beatles or that George Carlin was one of the best foul-mouthed comedians ever.  When i first heard George Carlin's standup I couldn't look at Mr. Conductor the same way ever again.

If you aren't familiar with Mr. Carlin or his comedy, listen to one his most iconic sketches of all time.  Its called the 7 words you can't say on TV. If strong language offends you please do not watch.

 (Contains Mature Content)

So once that was corrupted I found that people had taken the introduction to Thomas the Tank Engine and remixed it.  There are about 6-7 remixes but I chose my 2 favorite ones out of the bunch.  The first one is the intro remixed with the intro of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

The next one is a remix of the popular Snoop Dogg song 'Drop It Like Its Hot'.

Enjoy the day, the weather will be better later today, probably not tomorrow!

Are You Ready For Some Football!

I'm pretty thrilled that the NFL is back on though I think preseason games are going to be a joke because its going to be a mad scramble to see who is worth playing.  I somewhat miss the days where a player could lay out someone out without a fine.  I understand its dangerous but it made the game so much more interesting and intense.

This first video is about one of the fiercest tacklers in the NFL ever.  John Lynch was a heavy hitting, sometimes reckless guy, but his hits were amazing.  If you don't believe me take a watch.

Now that the NFL has disallowed such epic hits, teams have to rely on cunning and trick plays.  This play comes from a Redskins v. Broncos game.  Its a brilliant play that.. well you'll see.

Now if you don't have big hits in the NFL and you don't have the talent shown in the previous video, then sometimes you have to recruit in unusual ways.

I'm off to play a bunch of Minecraft and do some work.  Enjoy the day, and stay cool!

VG Mon

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  For a while I forgot that I sometimes send myself links on facebook and today I found the links that I sent.  The awesome part is that it all fits into a theme pretty well.

The first picture is a play off of the game Katamari Damacy.  The idea of the game is that you are a ball and you are collecting things by rolling over them to make your ball bigger.  I don't know why because I've never played the game, but here's a video to give you a better idea.

The picture takes this concept and makes it as if a ball had rolled over the best of Nintendo.

So if you've been reading my blog from early on, you probably know that I have a strange obsession with Nyan Cat.  If I could explain it I would, but as far as I know its just something that makes me happy when I hear and see it.  So I was thrilled to see that someone made a Nyan Cat with a Mario theme to it.  The first is Mario in a Tanooki suit and the second is more of a classic Mario.

Finally is a picture that is kinda sad, but also pretty amusing.

There is a lesson to be learned here: Never trust a Toad..

Happy FriRandomFestivalian Day!

I know this is unorthodox to have a theme on a random day, but today everything will be Public Service Announcements today.  This is a really loose theme because none of the pictures or videos are really PSAs.  I will just be presenting them as PSAs.

PSA #1:  Bros don't let Bros listen to Nickleback!

PSA #2: Be safe during the summer!

PSA #3: Be Aware of Mental Disabilities!

PSA #4: Be aware of Mental Disabilities 2

PSA #5: Learn your ABCs (Contains Strong Language)

Enjoy the weekend!

Saving Ink is easy!

I know this is a strange thing to post a PSA-like topic, but I have found a couple ways that ink could be saved from pens to printing.  It doesn't add too much to the cost of the pen to create this first idea, but it doubles the ink content of the pens.

Not only do you save ink, but you save plastic as well so it is truly a green product.  The average person doesn't think about how much ink a typeface uses when they print off a paper or a poster.  Designers Matt Robinson and Tom Wrigglesworth looked at ink usage of commonly used typefaces by hand drawing them.  This is their result:

Maybe Helvetica isn't the best font after all?  If you want to write a low impact on nature paper try to use Garamond or Courier as they use the least amount of ink out of the tested typefaces.

Finally, we see product packaging everywhere.  Its all covered in colors that may not be necessary.  I found a few of my favorite products that were simplified down and would still look great if they actually changed to the simplified look.

Tomorrow is Friday! Make it happen!

Offended? v. 2.0

So I realize that offending people isn't the best thing to do but sometimes its good to laugh at yourself and others as long as its in good taste.  This post will go on Comedy Sportz's Midnight Show's policy that "We (I) are (am) equal opportunity offenders, if you aren't offended this time we will try harder next time".

Who to offend first?

Today's post was brought to you by the letter Pi and by the number Pi!

DnD Cleric Withdrawals: The Beginning

So after a bunch of failed attempts to get a larger group to DM at home, I am stating to have player withdrawals.  I really enjoy playing DnD and recently I've been stumbling across a few funny pictures and videos about DnD.

First is a demotivational poster that has me pitying society once again.

This doesn't help my withdrawals seeing as I have a Dire Flail (A flail with a bludgeon and chain on either side of the staff).  Nevertheless though, there is always hope.  The next picture is an amusing comic, but it is however skewed substancially.  It is based off of the stereotypical nerd, not what I see as the average nerd.

This next video is from a british band called Tripod.  They have quite a few really good songs, and I found that they had one about Dungeons and Dragons.  I gave it a listen and it isn't too bad.  It does explain a bit about DnD and the last part of the song explains why people play it slightly well.

Finally is an epic series about a game of dungeons and dragons.  It is all animated and the creators are working on their 3rd Season as we speak.  It does take them a long time to make the seasons unfortunately.  However there are quite a few episodes still, and they are rather addicting to watch.  The series is called Unforgotten Realms and there is a link "UR" in the bottom right of the video if you enjoy it and want to see more.

Team Jello!

I found my Team Jello shirt over this weekend and I now want to do a post about Bill Cosby.  For those who don't know what Team Jello is, it is an intramural football team that didn't do well but had the best uniforms ever!  It was a lime green shirt with a Jello flavor on the back of each jersey.  For a list of the names and the logo follow this facebook link!

Everyone has heard the Cosby Pokemon sound clip.  Someone went one step farther and remixed it to the theme of Pokemon Red and Blue.

With the same set of clips from The Simpsons and Family Guy, someone else remixed it to make a Super Smash Brothers Brawl intro.

Then there is the Cosby rap that many people have heard.  The video for this version is the best I've seen anywhere though.  They added a Metal Gear Solid theme to it while using Super Smash Bros Brawl.

I was going to post a graduation speech from Bill Cosby to Carnegie Mellon, but the tone is far too different and it is 22 minutes long.  It is a fantastic speech that anyone should listen to, but it may not be the best after all this crazy material.  Perhaps later?

The Story of P(x) Randomness: A FriRandomFestivalian Carol

Once upon a dreary summer,
As I thought twould be a bummer,
I came across an awesome site,
To which I'd cater day and night.

A blog to where I'd put my stuff,
Funny, Sad, Cute or Buff.
And upon these pictures I did stumble,
Of youtube, pictures, words, a-jumble.

Day-to-day I make my posts,
Of things I find from many hosts.
If it tickles me or makes me lol,
I'll try to post it, and try not to stall.

Do I post the cat picture or the video awesome,
Do I let my mind wander and let the ideas all blossom?
Can the world take another post of "Friday"?
Or is that one of those things that should just go away?

Solutions to problems, solutions to strife,
Solutions to Nyan-needs, solutions to life.
Diagrams for stupid things, Charts and Graphs for fun,
Pokemon for the retro days, and pics of an onion.

Blogging every weekday, my goal has gone so well,
Posting stuff that makes me laugh, despite the threat of hell.
Tis all jokes that I do post, no intention to offend,
I try my best not to be mean, but to my readers befriend.

As I post this random stuff from all across the web,
My hopes and goals are viewers never ebb.
There are yet pictures to see and videos to watch,
Like this Hogwarts PSA and Pres T-Ro and Sasquatch.

I bring you the Carol of this humble blog,
Happy FriRandomFestivalian Day from the random top dog!

We Learn As We Grow Up

So of course when I thought that the fiasco of no power was over, we lost power again.  But now all power has been restored for me at least and I can resume the blog.  Its a gorgeous day outside so I don't want to post a long post that will prevent you from enjoying the day.  Today there will be 1 picture that has a lot to read but it is all true things that you learn as you grow up.

Growing up is wonderful.  Tomorrow is Friday meaning its FriRandomFestivalian Day!

Power Has Been Restored, but We Really Could Have Used One of These As A Generator

So I have experienced one of the craziest things ever. Not having power for over 24 hours is rather nightmarish.  Its not the lack of internet or cable, its just the simple fact that things I do during the day depend on electricity so much.  Frankly I open the fridge at least 10 times in a day whether I take something or not.  Now yes the lack of tv was bad, but the worst was that the entire area was out so badly that I had no cell signal in a ton of places.  For a while I had a 30 minute delay for texts.  It was a good experience and all, but I don't want to experience it again.

So back to the blog that i enjoy making so much.  You may be confused by the title slightly, but its nothing new.  The first thing I looked up on youtube was Nyan Cat again, and since that second posting there are a bunch of new songs on youtube.  I picked a few of the best and now you can see them.

First is the "Nyan Cat Chill" which is cool, but as I looked through a few of the videos I noticed that youtube has added a speed changer to the bottom of the screen next to the player quality box.  This one is good at any of the speeds.

This next one is quite the opposite, it is the "Nyan Cat [Speed Up] version.  It needs something in the background though.. Like a constant scream of "AAAAAAHHHHHHHH"

Next is the Dubstep version of Nyan Cat, its different, but still pretty good. It needs a little more FWAA FWA FWA FWAA.

Finally is the new Smooth Jazz version of Nyan Cat.  Very cool!  THough after reading the first comment on youtube I can't listen to this without hearing "onion onion onion..."

Hope you all have a Nyanderful Day!

Big Storm, Little Blog

So I still have power after the severe storm that rolled though this morning.  The area is in chaos though.  A house in my neighborhood lost half of its siding, there are trees down, fences down, odds and ends strewn across the place, roads closed, coastal flooding, and hundreds of thousands of people without power.  Chaos comes and goes in minute leaving a trail of destruction.

I promised someone that I would post this picture up today.  A girl asked her boyfriend to name the pokemon even though he had never played the games before.  This picture shows the first 150 pokemon with the names that he gave them. He was aware of some of their names as you can see below.

So with pokemon in mind, there are a few things that confuse me about the world of pokemon.  Who was the first person to decide that these monsters were designed to fight each other?  I have to imagine the whole encounter went something like this:

Even after that battle is over and your pokemon faint, why do you faint?  It doesn't make sense to me.  After you've passed out and you probably have multiple phallic shapes drawn all over you, how do you end up in a pokemon center?   Its all just strange.  The worst thing in the game is what the nurse says after you go and get you're pokemon revived willingly.

What a mean thing to say? You're a doctor! You shouldn't tell someone I hope to see you again in a hospital!  Thats like saying, "I hope you get shot in the leg again so I can experience your pain more".  If I didn't have to go to the pokecenter ever again I wouldn't, but its a monopoly. What can you do?

FriRandomFestivalian Day

So the name is a little out there so what?  I'm being pretty creative for 12:03am.  Normally right around now I get a little hungry, but for some reason today I just don't have an appetite.  I suppose I just have to give my food to the starving kittens of the world starting with this one.

This cat can haz cheezeburger, though I can't imagine it would eat on that often.  So recently I've found myself finding that I need to be patient a lot more and as I sit waiting I can think "just be patient".  Yesterday that worked pretty well.  I was able to drive behind cars going 10 under the speed limit without passing them and I made it through construction and 2 trains which I seldom have to deal with.  I felt pretty proud of myself for it.

There are still some times however where patience just doesn't cut the mustard.  Sometimes you just need to throw it into high gear and punch it.  Sometimes you just need to grab a gun and go bigfoot hunting!

Damn thats patriotic!

Other times still you need to kick it into high gear because you feel threatened.  You need to get away faster than your fight or flight can make you.  Not to spoil anything, but Harry Potter definitely knows this best! Strong Language Used!

No matter what is going on in your life be it difficult, fun, dangerous, scary, happy, educational, or other adjectives, that I lack the will to write, you just have to stay positive about it.  Life may not be all Sunshine and Lollipops:

But regardless what happens in your life you just have to..

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!  Stay Positive!

Original Content

I'm trying to come up with a company name for myself not only for web design but also graphic design.  So I figured until then I would post up some of my own work every so often.  I'm not looking for approval of the work its just what I enjoy doing.

This first picture is simply a picture of myself playing cards that I worked with in photoshop to make a pretty simplified out image.

Next is a set of 3 characters that I had created for a class to use in a comic scene.  We never made the scene but I really enjoyed making these characters. A boxing evergreen, a floating robot, and a computer.

Finally is a movie poster that I made combining two movies together.  I combined "Miracle on 34th Street" and "Nightmare on Elm Street".  It is kind of morbid but I love this poster.

Sleep with one eye open because you'll never know what will happen tomorrow.
